Built to Last: Flatiron Software Earns the AWS Migration and Modernization Competency

Flatiron is an AWS partner, and we recently earned AWS's Migration and Modernization Competency. It is a designation AWS gives to a select group of partners, after reviewing their actual client work and confirming it holds up against AWS's own standard.

How companies build and run software has changed fast. Managed services changed how much a team can run on its own. Customer expectations changed what counts as working, from good enough to always on. AI changed what companies want their software to do, and those features need a modern foundation to run on. Earning this Competency now matters because the companies facing that change need partners who actually understand it.

Good Migration, Bad Migration

Every company eventually runs into the limits of software it built years ago. A system that once fit the business starts to slow it down. It strains under growth, costs more to run than it should, and makes each new feature harder to add than the last. Migration and modernization is the work of fixing that. Migration moves a system onto modern infrastructure. Modernization rebuilds it to work the way current software should, so it scales, recovers, and stays secure on its own.

Two Kinds of Proof

Earning the Competency took two forms of proof.

The first was case study validation. Flatiron presented real client engagements with documented business outcomes: the state of each system before, the work delivered, and the result the client can measure. AWS reviewed these for substance, tracing each outcome back to the decisions that produced it.

The second was technical validation. AWS engineers examined how Flatiron's systems are actually built, across several projects. They confirmed that infrastructure is written as code and rebuilds cleanly, that access is scoped and credentials are short-lived, that data is encrypted and its keys governed, that releases are peer-reviewed and tested automatically, and that each system holds to defined performance targets under load. Clearing that review across multiple engagements shows this is how Flatiron builds every time.

The Work Behind It

  1. Snapshot AI. Flatiron built its own performance-intelligence platform on AWS from the first line of code. It pulls data from nine engineering tools and turns it into clear, AI-generated insight for engineering leaders. When adoption reached large organizations, the early data pipelines buckled under the volume, so Flatiron rebuilt them on a managed orchestration service and restored reliability at scale. The platform now runs in production for internal and external teams.
  2. A payments platform. The application had outgrown the single server it ran on. Flatiron rebuilt it on managed containers, with a database that scales on demand and global content delivery. Capacity now follows transaction volume, the team's operational load dropped sharply, and the cost tracks real usage.
  3. An energy-technology platform. A legacy portal held the company to manual processes and a fixed server footprint. Flatiron re-architected it on managed containers and an on-demand database, with automated background jobs and caching for speed. Manual effort fell, data grew more accurate, and the platform gained the room to expand into Germany. Full case study on request.
  4. A managed SaaS platform. The product ran as a single monolith, which slowed every release. Flatiron rebuilt it into services that deploy independently, on an on-demand database with edge delivery. Releases grew safer, scaling grew easier, and the cost of running it came down.
